Janaki Alavalapati

Dr. Janaki Alavalapati is a Professor of Forest Economics and Policy and the Dean of the School of Forestry and Wildlife Sciences at Auburn University, Alabama. Currently he serves as a Senior Fellow to promote Energy and Climate Partnership of the Americas program at the U.S. Department of the State. In 2007-2008, as a Jefferson Science Fellow, he served as a Senior Advisor for International Energy Affairs in the U.S. Department of State, Washington DC. He was one of the founding members of the Center for Subtropical Agroforestry and served as the founding Director of Conserved Forest Ecosystems Outreach and Research (CFEOR) at the University of Florida. He has M.Sc. in Botany and M.Sc. in Forestry from India and M.S. in Rural Sociology and a Ph.D. in Forest Economics from University of Alberta, Canada. He has published over 200 publications and made over 145 professional presentations. His selected awards include University of Florida Research Foundation Professorship (2006-2009), Superior Honor Award from the US Department of State (2008), and International Union of Forest Research Organization’s (IUFRO) Scientific Achievement Award (2010). Currently he serves as an Advisory Board Member for Forest Policy and Economics journal.
