Mobilizing through dialogue: Building interdiscplinary partnerships among forest health, wildland fire, and public health sector to find solutions to address the impact of wildland fire smoke on communities

This article details how SNAPP support made possible the creation and mobilization of interdisciplinary partnerships to tackle the harmful effects of wildland fire smoke across Washington State.

Integration of Forest, Fires & Human Health

This document includes a progress report for the three SNAPP workstreams including the framework paper, the policy brief, and the health impacts assessment. It also lists all related presentations, spin-off projects and provides an overview of next steps.

Living with Fire: Collaborative Partnerships for Forest and Public Health

This article summarizes findings from two workstreams: 1) a synthesis of existing research by a transdisciplinary group of academics, scientists, managers, and practitioners in the fields of forest ecology, fire management, public health, and air quality resulting in a list of recommendations around integrating health and health equity considerations into prescribed fire planning for coastal western states, and 2) an analysis of policy leverage points for integrating public health and increased use of prescribed fire.

Wildfire, Smoke Exposure, Human Health, and Environmental Justice Need to be Integrated into Forest Restoration and Management

This paper in Current Environmental Health Reports represents the first clear consensus statements between public health and conservation sectors outlining practical steps to remove barriers from using fire for active forest management and simultaneously minimizing its impact on vulnerable human populations.
